REF: STEM HLE 2026

STEM Experts for AI Reasoning Evaluation

Pangeanic is recruiting advanced STEM specialists to create original, rigorous problems that test the scientific and mathematical reasoning of frontier AI systems.

Project based Graduate or PhD expertise Remote English
Apply for this project
The project

Create advanced STEM problems that expose weaknesses in AI reasoning

Contributors will design original graduate and PhD level problems in their area of expertise. Each task must require substantial scientific or mathematical reasoning and lead to one exact, verifiable answer.

You will also prepare a rigorous step-by-step solution, review AI-generated responses, and identify the precise reasoning errors that lead to incorrect conclusions.

Responsibilities
Write original, self contained STEM problems at graduate or PhD level.
Ensure that each problem has one exact and independently verifiable answer.
Produce a complete solution showing every significant reasoning step and calculation.
Review AI generated answers and explain where the reasoning fails and how the error affects the result.
Follow the project format for mathematical notation, scientific units, references and final answer structure.
Fields required

STEM domains currently in scope

Biology Molecular and structural biology, genetics, genomics, immunology, microbiology, physiology, ecology and computational biology.
Chemistry Organic, inorganic, physical chemistry and biochemistry.
Physics Quantum physics, electromagnetism, mechanics, thermodynamics, astrophysics, condensed matter, nuclear physics and optics.
Mathematics Analysis, algebra, number theory, logic, geometry, topology, combinatorics and applied mathematics.
Engineering Civil, mechanical, aerospace and chemical engineering, together with algorithms, machine learning, computer vision, NLP, robotics, networks and computer architecture.
What strong tasks require

Precision, originality and rigorous reasoning

One clear answer

Every task must lead to one unambiguous answer that another expert can verify independently.

Original problem design

Problems must be newly created rather than copied, lightly adapted or answerable through a simple search.

Substantial reasoning

Tasks should require several connected reasoning steps and advanced domain knowledge rather than routine calculation or fact recall.

Requirements

Candidate profile

  • Graduate degree, PhD or equivalent advanced expertise in a relevant STEM field.
  • Strong written English and the ability to explain technical reasoning precisely.
  • Experience solving and checking advanced scientific, mathematical or engineering problems.
  • Ability to create original problems rather than reproduce textbook or published material.
  • Confidence with mathematical notation, scientific units and structured technical writing.
  • Availability to work independently through an online project platform.
